At the age of 36, I am considered as 'high risk mother". As there are so many disadvantages of caesarean birth, I was hoping for natural birth. As such, I take the chance to walk a lot while working and doing house work to prepare my body.
On 5th May, starting 5am I have stomachache.. I thought it might be due to the dinner taken the day before. So, I just waited for the urge to go to toilet. However, I noticed the pain came every 20 to 30 minutes. At 12pm, it started to feel very uncomfortable. I was thinking of going to the clinic, which is also a birth centre, only when Tain Sang was back from shop at 4pm (!) At 1pm, the surges were really out of my control. Tain Sang reached home only at 2.30pm. When reached the clinic at 3pm, they put me straight to the labour room. The doctor arrived 5 minutes later. Tain Sang has asked not to break the water or do any cutting. The doctor agreed. The cervix has fully dilated and doctor asked me to push during the surge. At this stage I just pushed as much as I can. Water bag broke by itself and baby came out 50 minutes later. There was a 2nd degree tear. As I think back, if I did not push so hard, the tear might be avoidable! It took me almost 2 weeks to recover from the stitches.
It was a 3kg baby girl. The doctor clamped the cord immediately saying that he need to clean the baby as she has passed motion inside. He also has removed the placenta manually after stitching me.
Overall, I feel it was a good experience and it should be prefect if the tear can be avoided. The labour prosses was not so long. I suppose the exercises, proper nutritious meals everyday and birth knowledges helped. We are thankful for Wai Han's sharing.
