(My own birth stories here: 2003 2007 2010)
"After one deep breath down, I felt the baby’s head out. Then I continued to breathe down my baby and after several breaths I felt baby slipped out and hubby reached out for baby and passed him to me. Our darling son came out at 12.38am on 18th Feb 2012. I hugged him tightly and it was a moment that I do not know how to describe. The feeling was out of this world! My darling son, Heng K Jin has made his grand entrance to the world." Read more...
— Grace Tan, 1st-time mum, who had an orgasmic home-waterbirth (Feb 12)
"As her surges became more intense, I started to observe the crowning of our baby boy. And I remembered Grace was asking me if I see hair! LOL (laugh out loud) moment! The crowning took place 3-4 times as whenever she relaxed the baby went back in. After the 5th try, Wai Han continued to encourage her to breathe down for the baby and the crowning continued and baby’s head started presenting itself until the whole head popped out! And what appeared like few seconds (actually few minutes) the entire baby slipped out smoothly underwater into my hands. Honestly, I was in such a stunned mode that I didn’t know what to feel." Baby Hang Yi"To encourage myself and keep progressing, I used my hand to check. I could feel my baby’s head! I shouted, “Honey, I feel baby's head! It’s soft.” When the surge came again, I continued to do the strong and powerful birth breathing, in and out, in and out. This time, I could hold the head! “Honey, baby’s head!!!” “Come on baby, mummy is waiting." Waiting for another surge… I moved my body backward and got ready to catch my baby when another surge approached. “HONEY, BABY IS COMING OUT!!!” Amazing… I held the baby in my hands and the baby's cry broke the silence of the night. He was beautifully covered with lanugo." Read more...

Baby Elizabeth"After what seemed like forever, I finally heard Wai Han saying that baby is crowning. The insane urge to push earlier was no longer there. I kept breathing down as Wai Han guided me. I can’t remember if I felt the ring of fire because the surges were much stronger. The really amazing thing was, I never did once push. I let Elizabeth take her time. Soon I heard Wai Han whispered to Ben saying that the baby’s head is big, and later that her eyes are opened. I felt a shoulder slid out and then a big huge relief as my daughter’s entire body came gushing out of me. And Daddy received his baby girl!" Read more...

"After maybe less than ten surges with urges to push, my son's head crowned at the vagina. Hubby had a check, confirmed it and I opened my right leg out sideways while holding on to the chair in the living room. Hubby told me to wait for the next surge and to push along with it. Again I was grateful that hubby was there and so in tune. I kept thinking how my man knew all this thing that my body instinctually know to do. Son's head came through and the next surges, his body came through also and he landed on the cushion under me. I picked him up immediately and put him to me." Read more...

Baby Ammar"I was worried that our neighbor could hear me since it was still early in the morning. Hubby later on told me that I hardly made a scream, only slight humming. As a matter of fact, he was noisier than I was when he shouted, “I can see the baby's hair already!” Around 8.00 am, our little Ammar finally came to this world. Hubby announced that the birth time was 8:08 am. Baby was breathing well but we could hear there was some fluid blocking his breathing. Hubby then heroically sucked the fluid off Ammar’s nose using his own mouth (which he swears will never do again, LOL!) Then we heard a loud cry. It was a very special moment that even hubby got emotional. Hehe…" Read more...

Baby Annabeth"I felt a very big urge and quickly ran to the toilet and assumed toilet sitting position. Baby's head was crowning! I called my hubby, “Her head is coming out!” Another surge came and her whole body came out smoothly together with amniotic fluid. Baby gave a strong cry but only for a few sounds. Just enough to let us know she is here in this beautiful world. My hubby received her and put her in my arms. The whole process happened less than 5 minutes." Read more...

"About an hour later, somehow I managed to direct my breathing towards the vagina. This helps the vagina to open. Within half an hour, my baby was birthed when I did it correctly! My hubby was very happy to be able to receive the baby with his own hands. Baby was very alert and looked around with her little eyes for a while before started crying. After that we focused on the birth of the placenta. I thought of resting on the floor with baby while waiting for the placenta to come out when suddenly I had another surge. I quickly passed baby to her Dad and when I wanted to kneel down, the placenta just slid down smoothly." Read more...

Baby Yusuf"I told my husband to get the blanket and lay it down on the floor and have him sit on the chair next to the bed. Then I got down the bed (trust me, I was amazed how I could do this thinking back about it!) and squatted in front of him, while his hands supported my arms and weight. And then I felt it! The surge and position pushed my baby downwards! Soon I felt my vagina opening wider! I felt the head about halfway out with my own hands and told my hubby that he's coming! Because i was pretty anxious and not to mention impatient, I gave a hard push. And the head was out! I then felt the sudden urge to push again but resisted, and my uterus just gave one last surge on her own to push out the rest of the body! And I caught him!!! " Read more...

Baby Ann"When I sat on the toilet bowl, the pressure got greater. My husband sat down and held my legs with both of his hands for me to support myself while I pushed (I know I shouldn't but I could not control the urges to do so). Nurses were on standby outside the room and waited for baby to crown. Hubby became very excited when he started to see baby's head and cheered me on further. About 10 minutes or more Dr. Choong came in and helped to receive my newborn. Once I pushed her head out, her body easily slided out. Instinctively, before she could do so, I raised my pelvis to prevent baby from hitting the bowl and for dr to receive her easily. My baby Ann was immediately placed on my chest as per my request." baby Nurwafa"I have no idea how much I was dilated but I just had extreme urge to push with every few minutes apart surges. With every strong surge, I whimpered and tried to breathe down as taught during class but perhaps it was too early. I kept trying a few more times and on one try I could feel that the first part of my baby has come down and I was right! I rested a bit and with the next surge, I breathed down. My sister told me the head part was out and softly told me to continue but I was slowing down to rest for maybe about 10-30 seconds. I gathered a final energy to do a final breath down and I could feel the rest of her body wiggled out and I was done." Read more...

Baby AuYong ZiQian"Baby was crowning. Wai Han asked me to catch the baby but I couldn't. Of course, my hubby did a very good job on receiving the baby. First I breathed down the baby's head, then I didn't know how to breathe anymore as I told Wai Han. Wai Han told me, as I remembered, "never mind, just relax." Then I just relaxed and I could feel the baby's shoulder, followed by the body sliding out very very slowly. I felt so relief after that. Hubby received the baby and passed it to me. It was a baby boy." Read more...

Baby Mithraan: 1 Msia family"The sensations became stronger and I could literally feel baby moving his way along the birth path. I chose the affirmation – my baby is coming to me smoothly along the birth path. Then there was the opening of the perineum, kind of a hot fiery sensation. I visualised the flower petals blooming and the thought that my baby is coming to me. 1st surge, I could feel baby crowned. I put my fingers to feel baby’s head and then moved from the throne to the yoga mat. While kneeling with legs apart, 2nd surge came. Baby’s head was out and what felt like seconds, 3rd surge came and baby was there in front of me." Read more...

Baby Akashah"I focused on my breathing - long, deep, hard and slow... and the opening unfolded slowly by the second... With the last surge, I felt a flood of warm liquid flowing on my calves and I felt relieved and no sensation or pressure at the opening anymore. My baby was born en caul and received by his father. Though since he literally was propelled in a single surge and came out with a gush of amniotic water, my baby actually slipped through his father's hand and landed onto the dry pad, LOL! ^_^ Talk about a toboggan ride!!! My hubby cried and overjoyed with happiness of catching his own baby and I was stunned for a while because I still couldn’t believe that I had just birthed my baby in one shot." Read more...

During the rest, I couldn’t help but be amazed by the surges… how my body could do such mechanism. The surges came closer apart, and I sensed Cadence’s head at the opening, and with an additional breath, her head passed through. I sensed a relief, and I knew there’s another surge for the body. One more surge came, and without much effort, I felt that she slipped passed my body and immediately she was placed right on my chest for bonding. I can say, it was the best feeling I ever felt. The next few minutes Kiefer's head crowned. I could feel it and instantly thought I had to get him out so that he wouldn't get stuck halfway in his descent. I kept breathing 20 counts and looking down, I saw his head emerge while turning an angle. I half breathed and half pushed (I think I grunted a bit too) and then as his body slipped out, I reached out to grab him, one hand for his head and the other caught his body." Read more...

148cm&189cm =2.7kg Baby Khaira"Tried to bear, but at about 6.40pm, I felt a really strong sensation to breathe down. I asked Hubby to call the nurse. Midwife came and I asked her to check on me. She put on her glove and just about when she wanted to do the VE, I saw her reaction; surprised and started calling the doctor and the nurses.
"OMG. You were so quiet!" The midwife said. Apparently, I was already fully dilated!!
With the first breath, baby's head was already crowning. And at the fourth breath, Little Khaira was out to this world, not a single cry, eyes wide open at 6.55pm, 2.7kgs. Alhamdulillah :)" Read more...

When I felt the sensation, I took a deep breath & felt my vagina stretched like something big wanting to come through. So, I spread my legs wider. I breathed out with some vocalization and the baby's head came out. I reached down and touched the baby's head & called for hubby. It was pure silence. We waited for a few minutes for another surge and then I breathed out the baby's body. The baby was born! Received by my hubby around 11.30am. I turned around to meet my baby for the 1st time. I opened my eyes and I looked. A wide range of emotions just flooded through me. There he was... my beautiful baby. Alhamdulillah... baby Hafiy was here! I suddenly felt so energetic; I have no idea where the energy came from. As I wished, I got to hold my baby right away as they put him on my tummy. I had the stretchy feeling and then, the whole head came out. Very soon after that, came the next surge, and out came the body and lastly, the legs. My baby Maryam is here, Alhamdulillah! Baby Hassan"I renewed my position from all four to half squat to full forward squat on the floor. Out of curiosity, I touched at the opening, felt slippery bulge, but I was expecting some hair. "What's this? This is not hair. Not hair," I said. Hubby was confused. He took a mirror and showed me. I smiled knowing that it was the head in sac. "Alhamdulillah, he's coming" I half cried.
I centered my focus and energy to my baby now, I was eager and very excited to see him. Suddenly, the strongest of all surges took me to experience the infamous "ring of fire". That was when I saw clear fluid dripping (finally it broke). Another huge surge came, I couldn't hold it, I ended up with one push, I have my baby boy in my arms. I love this part right here. peacefully born"I’m not sure how long it took, I could feel the baby’s head making its way out and retreated at one time, but it was probably less than 10 strong surges before I felt my perineum stretched and the baby’s head slipping out. Before that, the nurse (just realizing that I was birthing the baby out ha!) said to me something like, “Madam jangan teran. Doktor mau check lagi..” and I shouted to my husband, “Pull down my panties, baby is coming NOW!!!” With baby’s head out, the young staff nurse panicked but she quickly put her skills to good use. But it sure was, and since I felt like pushing, I did. It wasn't painful like I expected (I've had worse tummy aches) and with a few pushes, our little girl was here!

They stood by silently and let hubby and I to do our job. With just 3 strong breathes, my baby’s head emerged. Hubby excitedly went back and forth to describe that our girl has lots of hair and also chubby cheeks. loving the newborn scent"By this point with every surge without pushing and just deep breathing, I was able to feel baby descending down. In the first few surges I actually felt as if baby was moving down with the surge and when the surge was over the baby moves back up slightly. I am not to sure if it's the baby or I was actually feeling the muscles but I thought it was interesting. During this time I felt what really helped was to face the surges with really deep breathing, a slight pause and let go with a moan. Once I felt baby was about to come out I announced it to Kak Fiza and hubby, "Baby's coming out" and with that I slowly felt the stretch and slight ring of fire with the next few surges. It was not painful. It was just stretchy feeling. After a few more surges, Tia Ayesha* was born healthy in the hands of her Papa at 3.16am." Read more...

Baby in loving hands"I didn’t ‘feel’ that the whole head had been delivered; I guess I was too ‘absorbed’ in breathing correctly. I don’t really remember pushing either. I remember hubby going ‘Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar’ (God is Great, God is Great) while this was happening. I felt her slipping out of me from perhaps waist down onwards. Right after she slipped out, I heard her cry a bit as my hubby recited the Iqamah (shorter version of Azan) softly into her ears. He was reciting it, but in his voice he sang a different song, a song of pure joy and bewilderment. Then I asked for her. The cord was still intact and placenta was still inside of me so he had to pass her to me between my legs." Read more...

baby Emma: immediate skin-to-skin"The good nurses tried to teach me how to pull on the bars and hold my breath and push. I ignored them and breathed down instead. They said “ma’am, when you push, hold your breath. Don’t breathe out”. I don’t recall my words exactly but I told them heck I’m doing this my way, not yours! We explained to them how I will do the pushing. They were very doubtful at first but later were impressed that the method actually works.
We’re thankful that we took the Hypnobirthing course. Giving birth naturally was the best choice we did for baby Emma, to welcome her into the world and into our lives." Read more...

It helps me a lot to control the pain, but I think I forgot to change position as I was too busy controlling the pressure, busy practising the breathing techniques. We were nervous, frustrated and in pain due to the non-supportive birthing environment but thanks to HypnoBirthing and our guide Wai Han we were able to handle the situation despite the lack of attention from certain medical officers as we're not guided on what to do while being confined on the bed.
But our bundled of joy was able to be born naturally despite the stumbling block and we were able to do this without the use of painkillers. Baby was alert and bonded immediately. She could understand and responded when I explained the situation and helped her integrate the experience. We are so proud of her. Thanks Marie “Mickey” Mongan for developing such a tremendous course and Thank you Wai Han. We could not have create a much better bond with our baby if it wasn’t for you two. The birth was "transformative" and empowering - a rite of passage for Mum, Dad and Baby.
She titled her story as "A Love Story Rewritten". Here's her explanation:
"Oh... a love story... this is how I feel about my birth. I was so much in love in the process. From the gentle kind care from my hubby. I felt like a queen. All the soups, tonic, hard boil egg... It's not a birth story... It's a love story." Read more...

Baby Maya and placentaSher Li and Shang are 1st time parents who are very connected with their baby. They sought a holistic birth for baby Maya and decided on lotus birth (leaving the umbilical cord intact) for a gentle beginning.
"Because of our decision to have a Lotus Birth, Maya’s cord was not clamped nor cut at the hospital. A baby’s cord ought to be left attached as precious nutrients in the placenta should be returned to the baby immediately after birth, in order to boost his/her own natural immune system, instead of administering synthetic vaccinations at the hospital. ... Lotus Birth honours the baby by letting baby decide the best time to let go of his/her placenta." Read more...

So I went to the delivery suite with hubby and waited to give birth. Surges started to get intense around 2.30pm. It was getting more uncomfortable but still manageable without any injection or pain killer. After 2 hours of very intense labour, my baby came to the world with joy and healthy. Baby Joyce"I would say the whole pregnancy I felt much more comfortable after attended the first class of HypnoBirthing. It somehow empowered me with the knowledge that I do not need to be fearful of childbirth.
I did not get to enjoy fully the techniques which I learned from HypnoBirthing during the birthing because I was overwhelmed with an unexpected kind of surge. It took me about 12 hours to have my cervix dilated to 10 cm and in between I was experiencing surges from 5 min to 3 min apart. But the experience that I love to share is, I was able to go through the whole birthing process without introducing any drugs. I just want to encourage for those who has desire to go through a natural and drug free birthing experience, you just got to believe that it’s possible. I have made it happened. JoanneIt was already 3 days pass my due date and I started to have surges in the middle of the night. They got stronger but not painful, just uncomfortable. After only about 1 1/2 hours, we decided to go to the hospital and I was surprised to find out that I was almost complete and ready to have the baby! Had to wait 30 mins for the doctor to arrive (it was hard to hold the urge to push) and when the doctor came, it took me only another 15-20 mins to birth my baby boy! I birthed him in an all fours position and my water did not break at all so he was birthed inside the water bag! I cut the cord myself after it stopped pulsating as hubby felt too nervous to do it. I applied HypnoBirthing breathing techniques whenever I surged and I was feeling very calm all the time because to me, the whole thing was very natural. I had full confidence with myself that I can do it the natural way. Husband was also very calm as he knew I knew what I was doing and I will ask if in doubt. So, he just stood by beside me. Later, he confessed that he was actually very anxious but as he did not want to spark my anxiety and disturb my concentration, he just stayed quiet and waited if I needed anything. It is totally a different experience compare to the first two births which were more painful. It is a drug-free, less painful, calm and relaxing experience which lasted 24 hours. While waiting for the cervix to open wide enough for delivery I walked around the labour ward, chatted with nurses, had four meals provided by the hospital, watched VCD that my husband brought or listened to the Rainbow CD. Baby Chloe "My childbirth was totally unexpected; my little Chloe was only 29 weeks, premature for about 2.5 months and was breeched! I did my breathing as learnt from HypnoBirthing classes and I tried to hold back the labor. However, little Chloe just couldn't wait to see this world and receive ang pow from everyone (it was the 2nd day of Chinese New Year). At first I have to give birth through caesarean, eventually I had a vaginal breech birth as my baby's butt came out before the operation – apparently she didn't want us to be cut. About 10 to 15 minutes later, my baby arrived to this world... it was a comfortable birth. Although I did not have a total drug-free birthing as I did breathe in some gas, HypnoBirthing has helped my baby and I a lot where she only needed to be ventilated with oxygen for 1 day and she didn't need any extra dose of lung development jab. My baby was in the hospital for about 2 months to reach a more stable weight. Now she is 4 months plus and with more than 3kg, I am really blessed. Really thankful to HypnoBirthing and Wai Han who supported me throughout my birthing."

Wai Mei & Baby Kath “Little Kath Li was welcomed to this world with full of calmness and joy. Darren and I attended HypnoBirthing classes when I am 21 weeks pregnant. Since then, my pregnancy is so relax till birth even though she’s a breech baby. Although I gave birth to her via Caesarean, HypnoBirthing helped us to be in the most positive and comfortable position. The relaxation method thought me to be calm and I’ve been smiling throughout the operation as I know my baby will be safely in my arms in a few minutes time!! Our bonding is so strong that she stops crying immediately when I call out “Baby, mummy is here”, which amazed the nurses in the room. Naturally, a relax pregnancy leads to a relax birth and now a relax breastfeeding as well. She’s 2 and a half months old weighing 6.5kg now and I am still breastfeeding her exclusively. Thanks to HypnoBirthing and Wai Han for making everything so positive.”

Liz and Baby Edward“I was facing hell from my manager during my pregnancy. Towards the EDD, I started HypnoBirthing class with Wai Han, and that was around the time when I lost my job as well. Through HB classes, I learnt relaxation, and how to have a better control of my body to cope with pregnancy and birth. Through that process, I also get to bond better with my baby. Even though I ended up with surgical birth, I felt much more calm, and empowered compared to the 1st surgical birth I had. Baby Edward is a calm and happy baby. I feel that I also owe it to HB that my body healed well and fast. I was already climbing upstairs without help and vacuuming my room on the 3rd day after birthing. While I didn’t manage to birth my baby ‘naturally’, what I get from HB was much better than the antenatal class I received during my 1st pregnancy. It also touches a lot on how my body is built to handle the whole pregnancy and birth process naturally, hence with that knowledge, I have less fear and feel more in control. Thinking back of what I was going through with my work during pregnancy and closing to EDD, I went for birth and came out a very happy and contented mother, and so is my dear baby.”

Rashidi & Baby Hariz“I first discovered about HypnoBirth when I came across a book on Hypnobirthing, the Mongan Method at MPH MidValley. I flipped through it and found the contents to be fascinating – you can actually use self hypnosis to guide you through a relaxing, almost pain-free natural birth. Back home, I surfed the internet to find out more on this HypnoBirthing method and by chance stumbled upon Wai Han’s website. From then onwards, I was hooked! I signed up for her classes and dragged my husband to it. We definitely came out of it equipped with knowledge on childbirth and feeling confident about having a natural birth. For the record, I was only in labour for 2 hours; the first half an hour of which my cervix opened from 5cm to 9cm without any noticeable pain. Thank you Wai Han for your tremendous support!!”

Elaine & Baby Sammi “HB had provided me with knowledge of what is a safe, relaxed and natural birthing. It is totally different from what I have seen and heard that giving birth is a horrible and painful experience. It furnishes me with preparation in my heart that help me to stay calm and relaxed throughout the labour (though this is my 1st time, the nurses were surprised seeing me walking with my discman—I was actually listening to my rainbow relaxation CD, wondering around their counter!! I even went downstairs to the cafeteria to buy nasi lemak! Ha! Ha!) This can be seen from the steady and stable heart beat of the baby from the early contraction to the very strong ones, right before she was born. So glad that I was able to birth her without the epidural. Though the so-called “CONTRACTION” (we, HB mums called it “SURGES”) became more intense at the final stage, I was able to stay calm and relax because I know that every surge brings me closer to my baby… I was actually getting more excited!!! I would say, my birthing is a very sweet and memorable process, though it takes some hard time for me to convince my doc with the birth plan! I am glad to say that my baby is a happy baby, she laugh/smile more than she cry (many thanks to the rainbow relaxation CD, that I am calm and stable in my emotion during my pregnancy.) She is really the bundle of joy to me, my hubby and our family.”

baby Sophia & family “Four days of labour and 17 hours of active labour in the hospital, I only felt pressure on back on (I had a back labour). I didn’t go into a deep trance or time distortion; I just listened to the rainbow CD and used breathing techniques. Plus, it helped that my husband was a great birth companion and my gynaecologist, Dr. Choong fully supported my decision in having a drug free birth. I ‘breathed’ our precious Sophia Grace in the early hours of May 19 2006, weighing in at 3.18kg and I actually enjoyed the whole birthing process. It was so fun. I credit HypnoBirthing in giving me the confidence and clarity in identifying my body’s cue without fear and confusion.”

Baby Xiu Ting & Family “I’ve never expected I could endure such a long labour. My gynae offered induction but I rejected because I wanted my baby to complete her development in utero and have a chance to come out at her own pace, and decide her own birthday. Thanks to HypnoBirthing techniques and the support from the instructor, I was able to give birth to my baby naturally without induction & fear.”
